Art Carnuntum has been dedicated to the cultural and philosophical heritage of Europe and presents annually important works of classical world theatre productions by renowned artists from around the world.
The World Theatre Festival is known, above all, for the outstanding quality of its performances as well as its unique venue.
Art Carnuntum has defined itself as an International Centre for promoting antique drama in traditional or modern form.
It hosted amongst other Companies the National Theatre London, the La Mama Theatre New York, the Piccolo Teatro de Milano - Teatro D'Europa, the Ruhr festspiele Recklinghausen, the Suzuki Company of Toga, the Taganka Theater Moscow, the Teatro National du Luxembourg, the Croatian National Theatre Split, the Roma Theatre Pralipe, the Istituto Nazionale del Dramma Antico Rome - Syracuse and last but not least Shakespeare's Globe Theatre London.
Tony Harrison, Sir Peter Hall, Michael Cocoyannis, Peter Brook, Gerard Depardieu, Hansgünther Heyme, Peter Stein, Ellen Stewart, Tadashi Suzuki, Salvador Tavora, Theodorus Terzopoulos and Robert Wilson presented their latest and most innovative productions as part of the World Theatre Festival Art Carnuntum.
Prof. Piero Bordin, founder of the World Theatre Festival Carnuntum, tried to build a bridge between the great Theatre Festivals of ancient Greece and those of modern times. Thanks to his initiative a nexus between past and present was accomplished in a most professional way.
The almost 2000 year old amphitheatre in Petronell - Carnuntum was revived and lends its unique ambience to the unforgettable theatrical performances which it now hosts.
Constantina Bordin has been appointed the new Artistic Director of Art Carnuntum. Following her studies of Philosophy, Byzantinism and New Greek Language, she acquired experience on an international level in the world of Theatre as well as Science.
She currently focuses on research about the philosophical dissection of various Theatre phenomena and their body conception of the 20th Century.
